In Place of War is a Manchester-based global arts charity, with 2024 marking its 20th year anniversary. Starting as a research project that explored the role of grassroots art in sites of conflict at The University of Manchester in 2004, In Place of War has grown into an international charity. Today, it operates with a network of 130 change-maker organisations using the arts to transform communities affected by conflict, social injustice and the climate crisis. 

In Place of War uses artistic creativity as a tool for positive change. At the centre of their work is enabling grassroots change-makers in music, theatre, and across the arts, to transform cultures of violence and suffering into hope, opportunity, and freedom.
